Do you need to paint your ceiling? Here’s how to do it

1. Choose your paint

Flat latex paint: Although not exclusively a ceiling paint, you can use a latex paint with a flat finish for your ceilings.

2. Tools and material

  • Quality paint
  • Rolling pole
  • Paint roller nap and roller frame
  • Brush
  • Ladder
  • Dropcloth and or plastic
  • Tape
  • Rags
  • sanding pole / sanding paper
  • Rolling pan / 5g bucket

3. Prep the room

An empty room would be ideal but not always possible.

By bringing items close together and putting a drop cloth or plastic over the items along with the floor will prevent any paint from getting on them.

If you are not painting the walls using the green frog painter’s tape around the edges of the ceiling will help with the straight lines.

4. Painting

The best way to paint a ceiling is to cut in the edges followed with paint roller and work in grid-like sections of 3 square feet to 5 square feet sections.

This helps keep edges wet and allows you to see your progress and to ensure an even coat.

Continue this process until the ceiling is completed or till the desired look.
